What Would You Have Said?
What Would You Have Said?
Whether we’ve had
children or not, most of us at some time in our lives have had the joy of
holdin’ a brand new baby. Smellin’ their
sweet skin. Rubbin’ their soft cheek ‘n
feelin’ the tiny fingers curl ‘round your own.
Somethin’ so tiny, so helpless.

Christmas time
can be filled with many hassles and hurts. The very first one involved a young
engaged woman, Mary, and a man, Joseph, who chose to believe her and God for
their future together. In their culture he took a risk and believed what God
said, rather than obey the law of man.

Adventures of the Jolly Ol Elf
Adventures of the Jolly Ol Elf
My Daddy loved to make people laugh. He felt it was his callin’. Aunt Beat says he was “a born
prankster.” Daddy would wear a red
toboggan hat nearly everywhere – no matter what time of year it was. And with his white hair, grayish white beard,
‘n the twinkle in his eye, he looked just like Old Saint Nick himself.

The Lost Christmas Tree Star
The Lost Christmas Tree Star
The star that tops our Christmas tree every year has been in
my family as long as I can remember. It's
my favorite ornament, although I don't know why. Maybe it's because it
has so many points, or maybe it’s how the light shines through it. All I know is that every time I look at it, I
have this warm, peaceful feelin'. It's like God lettin' me know that He's with
me no matter what happens.

When God Calls You, Will You Step Out?
I was eatin’ at the Frog Holler Café
for lunch last week. A man came in ‘n
ordered a plate to go. After the
waitress, Mary Alice, gave him his meal, she told him how much it cost. The man said, “I don’t have enough money. Can
I come back ‘n pay you later?” She let him take it.

November's Bein' Thankful Series:
Not Just Any Ole Tree
Growin’ up I remember this big oak
tree in our back yard. My sister 'n I
loved to play under it in the summer, cause it gave a lot a shade. When a storm came up, we’d run to the house ‘n
watch the old tree from the window. The
wind would shake the limbs ‘n blow the leaves. We were afraid that the wind
would blow the tree over.

City Slicker
Cousin Horace was born ‘n raised in the big city of
Chicago. We were two years apart in our
age. Growin’ up, he ‘n his Mamma would
come ‘n visit us for a couple of weeks in the summer. Cousin Horace was kind of snooty ‘cause he
was from a big city. We loved to give
him a hard time when he came to visit us in Frog Holler ‘n called him, City
Slicker.

Back Yard Obstacle
When I was
‘bout fourteen years old, Daddy would let me drive his car in our back

drivin’ was against the law. I had to
put pillows in the seat to be able to see.
Our back yard was an obstacle course with trees on each side.

What Do You Fear?
It was my Mamma that first taught me
how to face my fears. Miss Winifred T. Crank was my third grade teacher. She
was tall ‘n had shoulders like a football player. Her hair was short ‘n gray.
Her face looked like a square fryin’ pan ‘n she wore a whistle ‘round her neck.
She terrified me!

Right Road, Wrong Road
Right Road, Wrong Road
Mamma says that faith ain't all that
complicated - there's a right road 'n a wrong road to travel. And if your road
doesn't end with Jesus, then your life's all a waste. If your road's not
pointed toward Jesus, it's pointed toward trouble.

Daddy's Hard Work
Daddy's Hard Work
Daddy always worked in feed ‘n
seed. He loved workin’ with
farmers. It was hard work ‘n time
consumin’. Daddy was like a doctor on- call twenty-four
seven. Sometimes late at night, Daddy
would get a call ‘n get up, go to the store, get what was needed, ‘n make the delivery. Daddy worked hard for his
family. There were times he wouldn’t
make it to me ‘n my sister’s piano recital or school plays. We did look forward to his comin’ home after
work ‘n wrestlin’ ‘n ticklin’ us. Funny
how you remember little things like that.
We knew he loved us! My sister ‘n I didn’t understand why Daddy worked
so hard ‘til we got older.

The Book of Ezra is another great daily devotional written by Deborah H. Bateman. Her books are easy to read and understand. A great edition to anyone's ebook library.Deborah H. Bateman clearly brings to life the story of Ezra's committment to studying God's Word, and how God stirred the hearts of His people to build the Temple of God in The Book of Ezra. Her powerful words explain the scriptures and history of the time. Each chapter ends with a prayer and a challenge for us to think about similar events in our life.

Let Your Speech Be Always With Grace (repost)
So honored to have JoJoTabares, a whiz at communication, as guest blogger today! Please leave her a comment. Thanks for lettin' me share your article JoJo!
“Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Colossians 4:6The Bible is filled with scriptures that teach us about our communication: our mouths, lips, tongues and words. This is one of my favorite verses.
God knows the heart of every man and, in that heart, is a different way of looking at the world. We may not always be able to see things as others do, but we have one powerful verse that tells us what we can do to be effective when we communicate with every man. God tells us to let our speech be always with grace. Giving grace allows us to forgive and forget a wrong, a word spoken in haste, a misunderstanding, a poor choice of words on someone else's part.
How many times have we said (or wanted to say) something harsh to someone because we thought they had “done us wrong” only to find out later on it was a misunderstanding on our part? Weren't you glad you didn't? Or didn't you wish you had shown them grace?
The Lord tells us that our communication default mode should
be grace. Grace-filled
communication allows us to share our hearts with other hearts that we don't
totally understand. Being gracious, even when we don't feel it is justified,
allows us to reach out, to lift up, to support, to share our hearts, to
educate, to inform and to save face.
Lord, thank you for your blessin's. Keep us mindful of our speech 'n may it always be with grace. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Mamma's Secret To Makin' Biscuits repost
Mamma’s Secret To Makin' Biscuits
Mamma was famous for her biscuits, even got a write up in the paper. My sister 'n I asked her what her secret was to makin’ 'em. We wrote down the recipe as she told us. When the dough was made, she dumped it from the bowl onto a floured table. Then she fluffed ‘n folded the dough end to end into a nice round ball. Here's the secret - she said she always gave it a "love pat". Then she took her rollin’ pin 'n lightly rolled over the top of the dough. She used her fingers to fluff from underneath to get out the air. Mamma said not to twist your cutter to cut the biscuits. Then once they were cut, fluff from under 'em again 'n place onto a bakin’ pan.
Mamma loved people ‘n loved to cook for 'em, ‘n she loved seein’ people eatin’ her food. One of her favorite Bible verses is John 3:16. She said that when God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins that was God's "love pat” to a hurtin’ world. He loved us that much!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Lord, thank you for your "love pat" 'n your grace. We are grateful. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Things To Think 'bout:
1. Do you know God loves you?
2. Are you spendin' time with Him?
