Right Road, Wrong Road

 

Mamma says that faith ain't all that complicated - there's a right road 'n a wrong road to travel. And if your road doesn't end with Jesus, then your life's all a waste. If your road's not pointed toward Jesus, it's pointed toward trouble. 

 

It sounds simple. I was talkin’ to Mary Jane, one of my regular customers, ‘bout this very subject.  Her son, Billy Lee, grew up in our church.  Mary Jane had him there for Sunday School ‘n preachin’ every Sunday. 

 

Mamma taught Billy Lee in Sunday School.  She said he was always playin’ pranks.  One time he pulled out a frog from his pocket.  Everybody, includin’ Mamma jumped ‘n screamed.  You just never knew what he was gonna’ do next. 

 

Billy Lee always had a knack for talkin’, which made him to be an award winnin’ salesman.  He traveled all over the country sellin’ health insurance.  He got married, ‘n started havin’ a family.  Billy Lee’s right road was as perfect as it could get! That’s when things changed for Billy Lee.   

 

He was so good at his job that he got a promotion, which kept Billy Lee travelin’ even more than before.  Billy Lee started down the wrong road of life ‘n didn’t know it.  He lost touch with his wife ‘n children, stopped goin’ to church, ‘n got caught up in all the business meetin’s ‘n deadlines of his new promotion. 

 

It didn’t take long for Billy Lee to realize what he was ‘bout to lose.  His wife called ‘n told him that she ‘n the children were movin’ to her hometown.  Billy Lee took the next plane home. 

 

Mary Jane said she prayed for her son night ‘n day! Nothin’ like a Mamma’s prayers ‘n the Lord’s touch!  Billy Lee made a career decision that cost him his promotion ‘n his job.  But in the long run, he realized how people have trouble figurin’ out if they’re walkin’ on the right road when their road is filled with business meetin’s, returnin’ phone calls, ‘n doin’ reports, ‘n takin’ care of the day to day.  Life is filled with “stuff” that can overwhelm us.  Sometimes faith gets lost in the shuffle.  Billy Lee now teaches a Bible Study at his church helpin’ people to know how to stay on the right road in life.

 

Matthew 7: 13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

 

Lord, keep us focused on you so we'll stay on the right road. In the name of Jesus, amen.
