Spendin' Time With God
Are you in such a hurry that you forget? Especially durin' this hurry, scurry time of year. Here's what it's like for me sometimes.
Last Sunday our service was on prayer ‘n how important
it is to pray without ceasin’. For me, it’s
hard findin’ time to spend with God in the mornin’s. I’m always in a rush. Runnin’ out of the house with my pocketbook ‘n
work bag, I open the car door ‘n drop everythin’ in the seat. I start
the car ‘n as I’m backin’ out of the driveway, I start prayin’. “Here we go again Lord. Another
day. Sorry I didn’t get to read
my Bible this mornin’, but you know my hectic schedule”.
As I’m drivin’ along, I
give Him praise ‘n thanks for all His blessin’s. Then – you know what happens –
I slam on my brakes ‘n yell - “Hey, next time give a turn signal! I’m no mind reader!” - “Lord, please forgive me of my sins ‘n help
me get through the day.” I come to a
stop light – what is it with people who don’t move on when the light is green?!
So, I blow my horn, beep, beep! “The light is green! Let’s go!” Then I go back
to prayin’, Lord be with all those who
are sick, lost, etc., etc., etc.” You
know ‘em Lord, you know who I’m talkin’ ‘bout.”
‘Bout
that time I look in my rearview mirror, “ Ok buddy, get off my back
bumper!” It’s just not a joy to drive
anymore. Gotta’ be lookin’ out for
somebody all the time. Finally, I get to
work. I grab my stuff ‘n start to get
out of the car ‘n say, “ Oh, in the name of Jesus, amen!” Then
I get out of the car ‘n rush
into work. I’m already tired ‘n irritated.
Usually, I have a little time before my first customer, so I pull out my
pocket size Bible ‘n sit down with my cup of coffee. Finally, time alone
with the Lord! After readin’ the Word, I can face the day with His peace.
Psalm
25:4-5 Show me your ways, O Lord; Teach
me your paths. Lead me in your truth and
teach me, For you are the god of my salvation; On you I wait all the day.
Lord, teach us patience 'n slow our steps so we don't forget to spend time with you! In the name of Jesus, amen.
Things To Think 'Bout:
1. Do you have a place to go to spend time with the Lord?
2. Do you take the time to spend with Him?
ROFL and so true!
