November's Bein' Thankful Blog Post Series:
Gettin' Out Of The Ditch
Grandpa had twin mules, Nell 'n
Pearl. They were good mules n' didn't mind hard work. But if they got spooked,
watch out! They'd take off runnin! Daddy often helped do the plowin’.
One day Daddy was walkin’ between
Nell 'n Pearl plowin’ the field. A storm came up 'n a clap of thunder spooked
'em. Nell 'n Pearl took off runnin’ with Daddy hangin’ on as best he could.
When they got to the ditch, Nell 'n Pearl came to a dead stop. Daddy kept goin’ ‘n landed down in the ditch.
He was knee deep in slimy ditch water
that had been there since the last storm.
It was hard for him to climb out cause his feet kept gettin’ tangled in
the weeds, ‘n the briers latched onto his clothes.
The storm was gettin’ worse ‘n
worse. Daddy was scared he was gonna’
get struck by lightin’ standin’ in all that water. He started prayin’ askin’ God to help him get
out of the ditch! All of a sudden he realizes that Nell ‘n Pearl are still
there. Daddy saw the reins danglin’
down. He grabbed hold of ‘em ‘n yelled,
“Giddy-up!” Nell ‘n Pearl started movin’ backwards pullin’ Daddy up the slick
muddy side of the ditch. By that time,
the storm had moved on ‘n Daddy led Nell ‘n Pearl back to the barn.
We don't know what kind of dead
stops life will bring us. But we do know who's in control 'n who can help us
get out of the ditch.
James 4:14 Whereas you do not know what will happen
tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little
time and then vanishes away.
Lord, thank you for bein' in control of our lives 'n for bein' with us in our times of desparation. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Things To Think 'bout:
1. Are you in a ditch right now?
2. Do you know that God is in control?
Be thankful in all things!
Thanks, Mitsy Lou!
