Guardin' Your Heart
One time when we were all just kids, Merlene stole some money from her
friend, Thelma, in Sunday school. Thelma
laid two dollars on top of her Bible.
When she went back to her seat, after passin’
out Bible verses, she got real upset ‘cause her money was gone. She’d been savin’ a long time for a special
offerin’. We all helped her look for it,
even Merlene, who had it in her pocket the whole time.
Now, Merlene knew better, 'n it didn't take long for her heart to get
heavy. All week she felt guilty! She took the money back the next Sunday. As soon as Merlene saw Thelma, she went
runnin’ up to her. With tears in her
eyes, Merlene handed Thelma the money ‘n said, “Thelma, I took your money last
Sunday. I know it was wrong for me to do
that; my heart has hurt me all week. I
hope you’ll forgive me.” Thelma forgave
Merlene ‘n stayed friends with her.
Merlene realized she needed to keep her heart open to Gods teachin’. She knew she’d never be perfect, but as her heart
grew closer to God, it would become more sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.
Dear Lord, keep our hearts open to your promptin's so we'll do the right thing. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Things To Think 'Bout:
1. Have you ever stolen somethin'?
2. Ask God to clean out your heart of any wrong doin's.
