I’m
celebratin’ a birthday this week. Remember when ya’ were growin’ up, it seemed
ta’ take forever for your birthday ta’ come ‘round. Now that I’m past 60,
birthdays come ‘round much too fast.
Just seems
like yesterday that me ‘n Cousin Bernie ‘n Cousin Ernie were ridin’ our
tricycles ‘round ‘n ‘round our refrigerator in tha’ kitchen. Taday my knees get
stiff sittin’ too long, my hips look like parenthesis, wrinkles ‘n brown spots
have added, what they call, character ta’ my face. Our bodies are supposed ta’
be temples. Mine looks more like an old overused map – wrinkled ‘n folded too
many times.
Like or not,
we’re all gettin’ older. There are cosmetics that can hide our imperfections.
There are exercise programs to build strength ‘n keep us trim. There are books
ta’ help us know what we should eat. But no matter what ya’ do, age is gonna’
happen. It’s a part of life.
What does tha’ Bible say about
gettin’ older?
Psalm 71: 18 Now
also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare
your strength to this generation, your power to everyone who is to come.
A senior who’s lived a life totally committed
ta’ God now comes ta' their senior part of life with a positive outlook of joy
in tha’ Lord. God’s been faithful in tha’ past, so we can continue ta’ trust
Him for whatever happens ta' us in tha’ future.
Psalm 90:12 So
teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Tha’ Lord is
our refuge. He is our Lord of Lord’s!
Titus tells
us women that we are ta’ be teachers of good things ta’ younger women. Since we
have lived life longer, we can help give wisdom ta’ others.
Some people dred bein' older. I'm just happy that God has givin' me another year! He has blessed me 'n I know will continue ta' bless in whatever's in my future!
Things ta’ think ‘bout:
1.
Are ya’ thankful for your years?
2.
How are ya’ helpin’ those who are
younger in their life struggles?
Thank ya’ Lord for tha’ opportunity
of another day. I pray Father that ya’ give us your wisdom ta’ grow older in
your grace. In tha’ name of Jesus, amen.
Mark Twain Quotes On Agin':
“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind,
it doesn't matter.”
“Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.”
