Ladies, ever want to change your hairstyle?
There was a time when I wanted my hair to look like Jane Seymour when she
starred in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman
on TV. I asked a fellow hairdresser,
Susie May, to fix my hair for me.
This
was early on in my career ‘n I was still learnin’ ‘bout hair color. Susie May told me people have different hair
textures that don’t react the same way to hair color. All I cared ‘bout havin’ was shiny, wavy, light
auburn color hair.
As I sat there with that strange colored
goop on my hair, I wondered if I was doin’ the right thing. Forty- five minutes later, Susie May whirled
my chair ‘round. When I saw myself in the
mirror, my eyes widened in horror ‘n I let out a blood curdling scream! My hair
was fire engine red! Susie May said, “The only thing I can do is cut the red
off as your hair grows out.”
When I went to church that Sunday, all the
reactions were the same, “What in the sam hill have you done to your hair?!”
Realizin’ that I couldn’t be Jane Seymour
or anybody else but myself, I vowed to never dye my hair ever again! I decided
to just be happy with the way God made me!
Psalm
139:14 I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous
are your works, and that my soul knows very well.
May we always be happy the way you made us, Lord. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Things To Think 'Bout:
1. Are you happy with yourself?
2. If not what do you want to change?
I do dye my hair red. Not fire engine red, but a deep auburn red. God made me a brunette with red highlights but when I had my miscarriage, my hair turned what I call dead brown. It's a dark lifeless brown that now would be mostly gray. So I color it...red...because I feel it suits the personality God gave me. I tried blonde once. But as you say, that's not how God made me. It looked fake and I felt that way. So now I cover my dull, lifeless dead brown with gray highlights with a color that fits who I am. Thanks for the reminder to be who God made us, Mitsy Lou!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like my post today JoJo. And that you're happy with how God made you! It's strange how uncomfortable we feel when our hair isn't right. Thanks for your comment.
