What or whois your trust in? Trust is a valuable trait. When someone trusts ya’, thatmeans that they have confidence in ya’! Tha’ problem comes in when that persondoes somethin’ ta hurt your trust. That can lead your heart down a bitter road.

There issomeone ya’ can always trust ‘n never be betrayed. Ya’ can always count on God.He loves ya’! He wants ta’ guide ya’! He wants ta’ take care of ya’! He wantsyour trust!

Proverbs 3: 5-6 Trustin the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding; In allyour ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

This is apowerful verse! Grab hold of it ‘n trust in Him!

Tha' Believin' Heart, 6th in a February series on matters of tha' heart

I believedthat my Daddy could do anythin’. I had great faith in knowin’ that he wouldkeep our family safe. I especially admired his creative way of fixin’ things.He knew more ways ta’ use duct tape than anyone else I know. When tha’ screendoor got cracked, he took one piece of tape and put it from top ta’ bottom onone side. Then he took another piece ‘n did tha’ same thing on tha’ other side.Oh, ‘n I’ll never forget that torn lamp shade in tha’ livin’ room. Yep, duct tape ta' tha' rescue. My sister 'n I thought it was tacky, but Ibelieved that Daddy knew best.

We need ta’believe in our hearts that Jesus is our Savior. That's tha' important thing. We then tell others ‘bout Hislove ‘n salvation. Those who believe ‘n call on Him will be saved.

Romans 10:9-10 …that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in yourheart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with theheart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is madeunto salvation.

Lord, wefail ta’ tell others. We fail ta’ share what you’ve done for us. Give uscourage Lord ta’ be more bold! In tha’ name of Jesus, amen.

Tha' Troubled Heart 5th in a February series on matters of tha' heart

Mamma toldme that when Daddy was fightin’ in WWII, her heart was troubled not knowin’what was happnin’ ‘r if he was ok. She ‘n Daddy shared great faith in God. Theyknew that even when their hearts were uncertain, He would take care of ‘em. Andif it was His will, they’d be together again.

Durin’ tha’last supper, Jesus was with His disciples. He knew what was before Him. Hisdisciples were troubled ‘cause they didn’t understand ‘bout Jesus’ death. Jesusgave ‘em comfort. He encouraged ‘em ta’ believe in Him as they believed in God.Ta’ walk by faith ‘n not by sight.

John 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also inMe.”

Lord, helpus ta’ have strength ‘n faith ta’ believe in ya’ in good times ‘n bad. Ya’ gaveus your life so we can have salvation ‘n eternal life. Thank ya’ Lord! In tha’name of Jesus, amen.

I remember my first crush, Wilber Lee Huckleberry. He was tha' cutest boy in tha' whole school. Mamma said it was just "puppy love". But I knew I was in love!

Have ya' ever been head over heels in love? Then ya' remember tha' feelin'. Tha' feelin' of wantin' ta'always be with that person 'n talk with 'em'bout everythin'. Tha' feelin' of whatyour life would be like without 'em. Asincere, meanin'ful relationship is based on constant communication 'n commitment. Just like your relationshipwith Christ. It’s all about heart! Tha'Bible says that whatever ya' feel in your heart, so ya' are. Are ya' head over heels in love with Christtoday?!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not preish but have everlasting life.

Father God, thank ya' for lovin' us so much that ya' gave us your Son, Jesus. Thank ya' for givin' us salvation. May we grow ta' love ya' more each day. In tha' name of Jesus, amen.

A New Heart 3rd in a February series on matters of the heart

Daddy had heart disease. Tha’ doctor had ta’ do a 5 by-pass open heart surgery. He got along just fine. My sister Ditsy Lou ‘n I gave him an Elmo balloon. It had accordian’ legs. Daddy loved it ‘cause it reminded him of tha’ time we had an imaginary friend named, Elmo. But that's another story. Anyway…

it was a long time ‘fore Daddy came home from tha’ hospital. He had a allergic reaction ta' some of tha' medications. After healin’, he was back at work ‘n livin’ a normal life again. His heart was stronger 'n healthier. It was like he got a new heart.

Tha’ same is true when ya’ accept Jesus as your Savior. Ya’ get a new heart! Your heart is changed! Ya’ don’t want ta’ do all tha’ things ya’ used ta’ do! Ya’ don’t even have some of tha’ friends ya’ used ta’ have. Ya' become new with Christ!

Ezekiel 18:31 Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit.

My Daddy always said that Mamma read her Bible every day - even on Sunday’s. That’s right! She never missed a day! Mamma told me that her heart was happy ‘cause Jesus lived there.

Mamma loved little children. She taught ‘em in Sunday School for 54 years. I’ve got a tape recordin’ of some of her favorite Bible stories. It’s a treasure! Wherever she worked, she shared tha’ Lord! Her heart was happy!

Proverbs 15: 13 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

What’s in your heart shows on your face ‘n in your attitude. How ya’ feel in your heart makes a big difference in how ya’ react ta’ what’s goin’ on in your life.

Tha’ HeartThat Judges

Mamma alwayssaid, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” Tha’ same thing can be said ‘boutjudgin’ others. I remember when a new family moved next door. Tha’ girl, BettySue, always bragged ‘bout how much money they spent. From tha’ way she talked,it sounded like they had all kinds of money.

She’d say,this cost $10.95 plus tax. That cost $14.99 plus tax. Every time she said tha’price, she’d say ‘plus tax’. It got on my nerves after awhile. One day I sawher in tha’ yard. I went over ta’ say hello, ‘n she invited me ta’ go in herhouse. Everythin’ was very nice, but they didn’t have anythin’ that looked likeit costs a lot of money. Come to find out, tha’ place they lived before didn’thave tax on clothes or anythin’. Betty Sue thought that since they were payin’tax they were spendin’ a lot of money. So, she wasn’t braggin’ at lot like Ithought she was.

Matthew 7:1-2 “Judgenot, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will bejudged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Lord, give us heart that doesn’tjudge. Help us ta’ always be mindful that ya’ know everytin’ ‘bout us. In tha’name of Jesus, amen.

When Temptation Comes A Callin'

We had oneof these wringer washin’ machines. I know what you’re thinkin’ – yes I’m old!For those of ya’ who don’t remember ‘em, water had ta’ be heated on tha’ stove then dumped inta’ tha’ tub ‘n rinsetub until they were full. Mamma would wash tha’ clothes ‘n then put ‘em through tha’ rollers. Tha’ clothes fell inta’tha’ rinse water on tha’ other side. Then she’d put ‘em back through tha’rollers agin ta’ wring as much water out of ‘em as possible. Bein’ I wascurious ‘bout everythin’, I wanted ta’ see how tha’ rollers worked. Ya'll, it’s notgood ta’ yield ta’ temptation. Ya' get inta' trouble every time.

I put my hand up ta’ tha’ rollers. Next thing I knew, myarm was goin’ through. Mamma came runin’ when she heard me hollerin’. Thankgoodness Mamma turned off tha’ machine before my arm got too far. But what ifshe hadn’t? What if I had lost my arm just ‘cause I was curious ‘n doin’somethin’ I was not suppose ta’?

Temptations face us every day. Be strong! Be steadfast inyour faith!

Matthew6:13 And do not lead us into temptation,but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power andthe glory forever. Amen.

CousinClaudine is a take charge kind of lady. Whenever there’s a task ta’ be done,she steps up ‘n charges forward! Cousin Claudine knows how ta’ get things done.There’s only one problem – it’s usually done her way, in her power. Whathappens when ya’ take control instead of God?

We are weakbut God is strong. We are strong through Him. If ya’ try ta’ go on your ownpower, you’ll burn out in no time.

2 Corinthians 13: 4 For though He was crucified in weakness, yetHe lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall livewith Him by the power of God toward you.

God is allsufficient! He is all we need!

When ya’need ta’ make decisions, unless it’s done God’s way, it’s in vain. Learn ta’let go! Let God call tha’ shots! Let tha’ power of God be your fuel! You’llmake a whole lot better choices!

Tha' Gifts of Grace

God is tha’giver of grace. Sin is no match for it. Grace is stronger than sin. Isn’t itwonderful ta’ know that God loves ta’ give?!

Grace meansan attractive or pleasin’ quality; good will; a blessin’; ta’ adorn; ta’dignify. God’s grace is His love. He gave His Son, Jesus, ‘n it’s His bloodthat cleans out sins.

What aretha’ gifts of Grace? Here’s a few:

Salvation

Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not ofyourselves; is the gift of God.

Adoption

Ephesians 1:5 Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself,according to the good pleasure of His well, the praise of the glory of Hisgrace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

Inheritance

Ephesians 1:11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinedaccording to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counselof His will.

Heavenly Citizenship

For our citizenship is in heaven,from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord jesus Christ.

Holiness

What’s The M.O.M. Initiative?

While many women dream of being the perfect mom who has all the right answers, never raises her voice and never has to count to three, we all know it’s not always easy being a mom. Those sweet little bundles of joy don’t come packaged with instruction manuals or warning labels and moms are often left to figure it out on their own.

The M.O.M. Initiative　is an acrostic for Mothers On a Mission to Mentor Other Mothers. It exists as a group of moms and a package of resources to equip, enable and support women as they experience Titus 2 in real life. We want to help moms become the best moms they can possibly be.

Website offers virtual encouragement for real life moms. The website exists as safe place to grow as a mother, to gain a better understanding of what a mother is and what a mother does and to foster and support mentor/mentee relationships.

Along with practical tips, helpful tools, godly wisdom and informative insight on current issues, The M.O.M. Initaitive website also offers a private chat room where a mom can connect with a ‘virtual’ mentor and find help in times of need. The website offers help for the mentor as well as the mentee.

The articles on The M.O.M. Initiative website are provided by a wonderful group of moms who are passionate about ministering to the hearts of mothers. Some are writers, speakers, counselors, nurses or experts in their fields, yet they all devote much time and effort to serving other mothers in whatever season of life they find themselves.

The Workbook:

The M.O.M. Initiative　Workbook is being developed to serve as a tool in the hands of Christian moms to help foster mentoring relationships beyond the four walls of the church and take Titus 2 to the streets. It will be an eight week study containing five lessons per week. Each day the mentee will be presented with biblical truths as well as mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and developmental needs of a child. She will also gain insight through thought provoking questions encouraging her to implement proactive mothering techniques.

The workbook will also provide a M.O.M. mentor guide and a missional planning guide in the back of the book.

How Did The M.O.M. Initiative Get Started?

The M.O.M. Initiative was birthed from founder, Stephanie Shott’s own story. At the age of nineteen, she was a single mom. Without Christ and without a mentor, she made a series of serious choices that affected her precious young son. After becoming a Christian five years later she learned being a mom is much more than a three letter word and a handful of sacrifices. She also realize the significance of Titus 2:4-5.

What’s the Vision for The M.O.M. Initiative?

We believe that if the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world, then the church that mentors those hands will win it.

The primary vision for　The M.O.M. Initiative　is that it not only be limited to those who enter the four walls of the church, but that it also be used to facilitate mentor relationships in homes for unwed mothers, in low income housing projects, apartment complexes, homeless shelters, prisons, juvenile shelters, schools, hospitals, the mission field and anywhere young mothers can be found. Twin Mules, Nell 'n Pearl

Daddy used ta' live in a house that had a railroad track in front of tha' house and a track in tha' back of tha' house. Aunt Beat said they never knew what a good nite sleep was. They had twin mules, Nell 'n Pearl. They were good mules n' didn't mind hard work. But if they got spooked, watch out! They'd take off runnin'!

One day Daddy was walkin' between Nell 'n Pearl plowin' tha' field. A storm came up 'n a clap of thunder spooked 'em. Nell 'n Pearl took off runnin' with Daddy hangin' on best he could. When they got ta' tha' ditch, Nell 'n Pearl came to a dead stop throwin' Daddy inta' a mud hole.

We don't know what kind of 'dead stops' life'll bring us. But we do know who's in control 'n who can help us get out of tha' mud hole.

James 4:14 Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

What kind of 'mud hole' are ya' in?
Do ya' fully trust in God?
Are ya' lettin' God be in control?

Lord, give us your wisdom ta' face whatever troubles we have. Give us strength ta' let you be in control. In tha' name of Jesus, amen.

When God Calls, Do Ya' Get Up 'n Step Out?

I know, we all have our routines. We become like machines just doin' tha' same thing over 'n over again. We get comfortable. After a while, routine becomes a rut. Have ya' started a new rut in tha' new year? If so, do ya' want more out of life? If God calls ya' ta' go out on a limb, ta' do somethin' different, are ya' willin' ta' get up 'n step out?

If tha' answer's yes, then get up 'n step out! Don't be afraid ta' try somethin' new. Ya' know, out there on tha' limb is where tha' fruit is. Sometimes that's where God wants ya' ta' be. Ya' don't have ta' worry 'cause He'll never leave ya' hangin'! He'll give ya' courage 'n faith ta' step out do His will! Tha' Lord's always with ya' liftin' your spirit!

Psalm 37: 23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.
So, get up 'n step out! Live tha' life of obedience! Focus on Jesus! Delight in walkin' with Him!

Want Rest? Try God!

Sometimes when I'm stressed 'n feelin' a heavyness on my shoulders, I forget ta' go ta' God. Instead I take on tha' task 'a workin' things out myself. Big mistake! Does this ever happen ta' ya'?

God wants us ta' throw our troubles on Him 'cause He wants ta' carry our load for us.

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
Are ya' shoulders heavey? Are ya' tired? Are ya' weary? Are ya' weighed down with troubles? Don't be in such a hurry runin' 'round tryin' ta' fix things by yaself. Run ta' God 'n throw everythin' on Him. Things seem ta' work out better. Mamma says that ya' need ta' let go 'n let God. She says that you'll always find rest in tha' arms of Jesus.

Will ya' let God carry your burdens for ya'?

Lord, thank ya' for always lovin' us even though we don't always come ta' ya' with our troubles. I pray Father for anyone goinin' through difficult times, give them your peace 'n love. In tha' name of Jesus, amen.

Do Ya' Want God Ta' Do Somethin' New?

I love it when a new year begins. It makes ya' want ta' change some things. Maybe get a new hairdo 'r change your furniture 'round. Doin' somethin' different can sometimes make ya' feel better.

God wants ta' do somethin' new in you! Ya' gotta' forget your past. It can get in tha' way of servin' God.

Isaiah 43:18 Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.

Ya' need ta' have an open heart ta' hear His voice. He has new ways for us ta' serve Him by servin' others.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

Ya' can't serve God 'n tha' world. It just doesn't work!

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be tansformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Isaiah 43: 19 Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not now it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the dessert.

God will make a way for ya'! Be grateful ta' Him!

Christmas is Over... Now What?

A few days ago it was Christmas morning. Excitement and smells of a holiday feast filled the air. Gifts were nestled under the tree wrapped in brightly colored paper and bows. Children were wide-eyed, in awe of what was inside the box that had their name on it. Dazzling lights and sounds of jingle bells provided a backdrop to this much anticipated moment. It was a time for family and friends to come together, exchange gifts, feast, and celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Messiah.

But once the gifts have been unwrapped, the leftovers eaten, the decorations put away, and the excitement has subsided... what do you do? What do you do when Christmas is over? What do you do when the celebration has ended? For many, life goes back to the routine that consumed them before. A routine of worry, frustrations, self-focus, and complacency. They forget what it means to serve. They forget what it feels like to give. They forget how to shine the light of Christ in the darkness of this world.

Oh, at Christmas time it's easy. Everyone is being a light. But in January, when the person in the cubicle next to them is hurting, or their neighbor is going through a divorce, or the man on the street corner needs a meal, they walk on by because their own needs are more important. They are no longer the "Good Samaritan" willing to help those in need. They become self-centered and focused on their own needs, wants and desires. They tell themselves that someone else will talk to that person in the cubicle next to them, and someone else will help their neighbor, and someone else will give a meal to the man on the street corner. Just not them!

Why not be that "someone else" today? Why not stand up and let the world know that the light that came into this world so many years ago, Jesus the Messiah, lives in you every day of the year? Why not shine brighter this coming year than you did last year? Why not be the difference the world needs? You don't need Christmas to do that. You simply need Jesus.

Our very lives should be a reflection of Christ in all that we say and do. It's not easy to stand tall shining that light when you have storms and people and life coming at you. It's not easy to keep from cowering in the corner and hiding that light when persecution comes. Jesus experienced that... "The light shines in the darkness and the darkness doesn’t comprehend it." (John 1:5) "He was in the world, and the world did not know him. He came unto his own, and his own didn’t receive him." (John 1:10)

Jesus, the very light Himself, was rejected by those He came to save. Have you ever thought about that? I mean, really thought about it?

I don't think we understand what took place thousands of years ago when God became flesh. Do we really understand that God, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, gave up His throne to live as man: to hurt, to love, to serve, to die... for you?! On the day of His birth all creation bowed down, all heaven rejoiced, all hell trembled, everything changed because new hope for man was born. The entire universe rejoiced to see the Savior born, that is except man. Jesus was born into this world to be worshiped. Anyone could come and bow before him. The town was filled that night with people. But only a few shepherds came to worship him. At a later time some wise men came. But there were no feasts or parades there in Bethlehem to welcome the King of Kings into this world. There were no parties or a welcoming fanfare. No, it was a humble entrance filled with awe and wonder in the heavens. And though he was not recognized on this earth for who He truly was, Jesus left an unmistakable trail of evidence that changed the world forever. Jesus, the Messiah, God in the flesh, brought life to us all through His life, death and resurrection.

We need to do the same thing with our own lives. We need to leave an unmistakable trail of evidence that our world has been changed by the coming of Jesus. We need to be a person who is changed and altered by Him. It doesn't mean filling our world with Christian "stuff" and doing Christian things. It means you, your life, your calling, and all you have, becomes a witness to the world.

It's tempting to get comfortable, to keep a low profile, to follow the crowd... but instead, I invite you to put flesh, hands, feet, gifts, creativity, and life to the service of the Word. I ask that you make God your priority in life in a way that the Word of God takes on life in you. What overtook the world with the good news of Jesus was people who included the excluded, served the hurting, invited the forgotten, risked, created, suffered, gave, and went. They put flesh, hands and feet to the Word.

This is not the easy way or the profitable way to live, at least not as the world counts profitability or ease. This is not the way to the next level of success. This is not just a way to live during one month out of the year. This is the way of Christ and the way of every true believer. Will you put hands and feet to the Word?

Ten Sips of Hope

This year I saw that Christmas time is filled with hassles andhurts. The very first one involved ayoung engaged woman, Mary, and a man,Joseph, who chose to believe her and God for their future together. In theirculture he took a risk and believed what God said, rather than obey the law ofman.

They had to go through a lot of hassle to become the earthlyparents of the King of Kings, Jesus; but look how God worked that out for themand for us!

As we remember what God sent through that couple to us; doesthat bring hope to you? Or did you let the many hurts of your life rob you ofthe joy that God has in store for you? "God provides help for every hasslebut not always in our timing. Pain and hurt doesn't go away just because of aholiday."

Mary was rejected, Joseph had to do many things to protecthis family; but in the end they learned life's greatest lesson: Never Quit!

Now that the time we celebrate is over, I rediscoveredChristmas this year; thanks to a great friend, and awesome servant, Pastor JakeThornhill. The quotes are his and wereused to instill in me hope for a New Year; and perhaps will do the same foryou!

I am a hot tea drinker and this year was no exception. Ifound some new flavors, and ways to make my favorites even better. I like todrink my tea slow, and savor each sip. As I experienced those moments throughthe hustle and bustle of what has become our celebration; I thought about whatChristmas really means for my future and how it can impact yours too.

What is the truth of Christmas to you in your world? Does itgive you hope? Let's see as you grab a cup of hot tea and sip along with me.

R- Thereare many risks we take in life. Areyou willing to risk everything for the truth that Jesus is

who He said He is, the only wayto Heaven, and you can live a great life now?

I- Areyou interested in the things of Godor only the things of this world and what others tell you?

S- Doyou admit that you are not perfect and that sin seems easy, if we let it be in control?

T- Haveyou taken time to get to know andlove God and develop a real personal relationship with

Him?

M- DoesGod matter in your life? Are youwilling to give Him all your hassles and hurts?

A- Haveyou allowed the truth of Christmasto be your truth of life?

S- Doyou see the true meaning ofChristmas? Are you waiting for the soon return of Jesus?

2011- Whatkind of year did you have? Was it filled with adventure, excitement, hope andjoy? Or was

it one of your worse ones ever?

As weapproach the New Year of 2012, we need to remember: "God does not offer usa hassle free and hurt free life; but He does offer us a Hope filled onethrough faith in Jesus Christ."

As I finish my last sip of tea I ask you, What do you believe? I am so glad that God did not make this hardand complicated. He said: “cry out to me, (which is praying to Him and reallymean it with all your heart), and I will listen, hear, and show you what I havefor you."

The Spirit of Christmas

Oh, how I love this time of year. I get all giddy at thesight of Christmas decorations and the glistening of pretty lights. I would beremiss if I left out the joy of holiday music and lyrics about baby Jesus, rednosed reindeer and some portly guy who wears a red suit—who always seems toknow whether we’ve been bad or good. It warms the cockles of my very being.

I love how people take time out of the hustle and bustle oftheir busy lives and schedules to help others. I get misty eyed when I witness“haves” bestowing good cheer upon the “have-nots” for no other reason than thefact that they, too, have been bitten by the spirit of Christmas.

Christmas time is by far the best time of the year for mebecause it seems to bring out the best in most people. It seems to be the onetime of year when many put aside their differences to help mankind. It’s a timeof year when even takers turn into givers. It seems to be the only time that Ifeel the sudden urge to waltz around my home as I sing along to Silent Nightand Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, amongst other favorites. It’s the onlytime that you’ll find me, full-time, in an apron, baking Christmas delicaciesof all kinds: chocolate chip cookie, sugar cookies, peanut brittle, browniesand sweet potato pie. Ah!

Forever etched in my heart are the memories of being a childand lighting up when I saw a Christmas tree atop of mounds of presents. When mychildren were growing up, I was equally delighted to see their smiles duringthe season. And, now that I am a grandmother, I find that old traditions diehard, although, creating new ones are a joy.

Someone recently said that they didn’t understand howsomeone could walk by them all year long and not say a word, but then wish thema Merry Christmas during this joyous occasion. I’m convinced in my heart thatit is in fact the spirit of Jesus that evokes these feelings within us. Afterall, this season is all about thebirth of our dear Christ.

Despite the fact that many want to be politically correctand change the “wording” of the Christmas Season to the Holiday Season, mostwill agree that this season is about the birth of Christ and the season ofgoodwill. It doesn’t matter what you call it, it all means the same. TheChristmas Season is a celebration and a time to share in the joy of our dearSavior’s birth. How cool is that?

In Isaiah 9:6 says “For unto us a child is born, a son isgiven; and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Jesus came so that we might be free andforgiven of our sins. It is His life that gives us the warm and fuzzies during Hisbirthday season. Just when it seems there is no hope in the world, we prove themasses wrong. I only wished the Spirit of Christmas; the Spirit of the Lord andSpirit of Mankind lasted all year long. For now, I’ll continue to cherish theChristmas Season and the Spirit of Christmas.

WONDER-ful

“For unto us a Childis born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon Hisshoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

As we findourselves smack dab in the middle of the most wonderful time of the year it’seasy to be distracted by the beauty of the lights and the ornaments. The sites,sounds and even the smells call our attention to the fun and festivities of itall.

But aswonderful as all that is, there is nothing or no one more WONDERful than theLiving God. He defines wonderful by His very existence. He isWONDERful. He is full of wonder.

In theoriginal language we find the Hebrew word, Pele’. It means beyond comprehension, distinguished,marvelous. That’s our God. Beyond our comprehension. Distinguished as differentfrom and above all other beings. One to be marveled at. Full of wonder.

It’s notjust a description given to Him. WONDERful is who He is - and who He is shouldcause us to stand in awe...to live our lives in awe.

ThisChristmas as you consider Christ and contemplate His journey from the cradle tothe cross will you allow yourself to be WOWed by this WONDERful Savior? Thesame God who spoke the world into existence, flung the stars in space and callsthem by name...the same God who hold the sun in place and the sea at bay...thesame God who knows the number of hairs on your head and the thoughts of yourheart...the same God who humbled Himself and became obedient unto death...yes,the same God who is reigns as the all powerful, all knowing and self-existentOne...yes, this same God loves us.

Doesn’tthat WOW you?! Don’t you stand in awe at the awesomeness of God?1 Doesn’t itjust fill you full of wonder to reflect on how WONDERful He really is?!

Thisdefinitely is the most wonderful time of the year, sweet friend...but don’t letit slip by without being WOWed by our WONDERful Savior. Take some time, bask inHis presence and be still and know that He is God.

LetHim WOW you with wonder this Christmas. Let Him WOW you for the rest of youlife!

                                                          The Greatest Gift of All

                                                                Matthew 2:1-14

                                                                  John 3:16-17

As we come into the Christmas holiday season, people are thinking about what gifts they will buy their loved ones. We are all busy decorating our homes with trees, lights, and wreaths. We are thinking about what kind of goodies we will make and what the menu will be for our Christmas celebration.

We are going to parties and wrapping gifts. Amidst all the hustle and bustle of the Christmas holiday season, let’s not forget what the true reason for the season is. Christmas is supposed to be a holiday to celebrate the greatest gift of all, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

This scripture in Luke 2 gives us the details of that glorious day. Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem to pay their taxes. It was near the time for Mary to deliver baby Jesus. While they were there her time came. The scripture tells us she had her firstborn Son, wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

There were shepherds keeping watch over their sheep at night and the angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shined about them and they were afraid. The angel said to them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Then, the angel told them that they would find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger.

Suddenly, with the angel was a heavenly host praising God and saying, "- Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." There was a great celebration on that day.

Luke 2:1-14

1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

2 ([And] this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

As we celebrate Jesus’ birth on Christmas, remember the greatest gift of all was not His birth, but the gift of salvation that God gave us through the death of His beloved Son on the cross for our sins.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. –John 3:16-17

Grace of God -(n) (Christian theology) the free and unmerited favor or beneficence of God; "God's grace is manifested in the salvation of sinners"; "there but for the grace of God go I..."

You hear the word bandied about all the time. Grace. It is a pretty popular word in the Christian vernacular. I've talked about it and sang about it all of my life but never really fully embraced the word or it's meaning until a few years ago. Looking back on my life now, I see grace not as a noun but as an active verb. A very present and absolutely incredible outpouring of God's perfect love at exactly the right time, almost always when I had nothing left to hang on to. Let me explain...

By now, everyone knows that my childhood was less than ideal. Join the club, right? Well, like a lot of other children in difficult family situations, fear was an oppressive and constant occupant of my thought life. I was always on alert for the winds of unrest to begin brewing and for the inevitable storms that almost always followed. Unfortunately, as a young adult, I began experiencing tempests of my own creation. History repeating itself, or something like that. I was a maker of messes in my own life and in the lives of others. Not something I'm particularly proud of. But, God, being God, had always had other plans for me. I was saved by grace. Again and again.

I didn't deserve it. None of us do. We pray for God to perform miracles and healing and to...well...perform. We go to Him in prayer with the words 'I want' or 'I need'. As if giving us life, a beautiful planet to sustain us and the ability to love one another were not enough. We want and need more. Much more. And He gives of Himself...endlessly pouring out more and more. Again...grace.

How does all of this relate to Christmas? Let me present my case...
When I was around eight or nine years old I truly believed that my mother hated me. Might have had something to do with the fact that she told me so...in a moment of irrational, alcoholic anger...and she apologized later...but once those words are expelled it is nearly impossible to remove them from your mind. I felt hopeless and unloved a lot in those days. It It was almost Christmas and one of my favorite pastimes was looking under the tree, counting my presents and shaking them, trying to figure out what was inside. That year? Nothing. Nada. It seemed to reinforce the fact that I was not loved or even thought of. And then Christmas finally arrived and after most of everyone's gifts were opened my mom got up and left the room. She returned, smiling mischievously, with a huge gift wrapped box. To my delight and amazement it was for me and inside were what seemed to be endless, individually wrapped presents my mother had selected just for me. As I opened each gift, each more thoughtful than the next, I had a revelation and I began to feel the love flowing back into me. I realized that day that though my mom had flaws, she loved me the best way that she knew how. I know in my spirit that God spoke into my mother's heart by His grace and helped her to show her love for me in such a way that no matter how bad things got between us later, I never doubted her love for me again. Only God would know how important that would be to me as time passed and the stormy years appeared on the horizon. That's what is so beautiful about grace. It is applied as a balm to the past, a blessing in the present time or even as a buffer for future events as God sees the need. I love Him so much for that!

The other story involves our struggle with infertility. Every Christmas, for several years, I prayed that God would send us a Christmas miracle (I want, I need) and that we would have the baby we were dreaming of. Every year that passed I felt more resolved to pray harder and believe bigger. That is the grace of God in action. There is no other way to describe the feeling of certainty during very trying times that by faith, through God's grace, we would have the family we wanted so much. I just knew it would happen and never gave up hope. After seven years of heartbreak and loss, fertility treatment, a succession of incredible mini-miracles and a move across the country, our baby Patrick was born on December 13th just in time for Christmas. God's grace was there to see us through. Our marriage and relationship was strengthened through the process, and two and a half years later we welcomed beautiful, healthy twin babies into our family. An amazing miracle indeed. Only God could have pulled off something like that!

The most obvious story of Christmas grace is, of course, the original one. He gave His only son as a sacrifice to atone for the sins and transgressions of a fallen world. He knew what the price would be before the foundations of the world but He was willing to pay it. When there was nothing left to hang on to but fear, and the stormy messes created by sin had become a dangerous force. When there was only a hopeless desire for a love that was broken and lost. He saved the world with a gift of amazing grace that will never be surpassed. A baby that arrived just in time for Christmas. For God so loved the world that we once were lost but now are found. We were bound but now we're free. Jesus lives, He loves and He reigns, halleluia!
I rest my case.

Before I share my little story with you, I would like to thank Janet for inviting me to be a guest blogger. I am very honored to have this opportunity.

The Christmas Season is upon us once again. It is only two short weeks until Christmas Eve. The hustle and bustle of Christmas is all around us as we hurry and scurry about to finish our shopping and plan for all the usual celebrations. I want to draw from some precious memories to stress the importance of keeping the true meaning of Christmas alive as we come to the end of 2011. In order to do so, I am going to travel back into my own childhood and the memories that I cherish from so long ago.

When I was a young girl, Christmas was seldom about giving gifts. If I received one…it was usually an unwrapped and much needed article. I considered myself blessed to receive any present at all. The excitement mounted in our home regardless of the lack of presents. Christmas Eve was the start of the family celebratory season with a midnight church service followed by the special treats of homemade “tortiere”/ meat pie and other Christmas delights.

My siblings and I would tie our stockings to our wrought iron bed and wait for morning with eager anticipation. Sometime during the night, my dad would creep into our bedroom and quietly put one Christmas orange, a few peanuts in the shells, and some hard unwrapped candy at the bottom of our long stockings…stockings that we actually wore and only used in this manner once a year for this special occasion. Even when we were very young, we never talked about Santa Claus. We seemed to always know that it was my dad putting those few items in our stockings that we were so grateful to receive.

To me, Christmas Love is really about family but even more importantly, it is about celebrating the birth of Christ. In doing so, we are sharing in the joy of the holy family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and that special birth of Our Savior that took place over 2000 years ago.

At times, it is apparent to me that society has taken the Christ out of Xmas and replaced it with many un-Christ-like substitutes…a multitude of X’s. There is much Xtravagance, many unrealistic Xpectations, too much Xtra spending, Xaggerated gift giving, Xcessive eating, Xhaustion, and too many other Xmas activities to mention. In order to truly experience the meaning of Christmas Love, it is necessary to get back to basics and keep Christ in our Christmas festivities by removing as many X’s as possible.

I also feel it is necessary to refocus and redefine what Christmas is all about and what we can personally do to recapture some of the love, joy, and peace of this wondrous season.

Therefore, on that note, I would like to wish each of you a Christmas Season filled…less with the Xploits of consumerism and…more with the Love of Christ. This is what Christmas Love is all about and why I think it is so precious. Wouldn’t you agree?

Tha’ word ‘peace’is used a lot ‘n can mean different things like ‘Peace of mind’ ‘r ‘Bein’ atpeace’ has ta’ do with calmness'r harmony in your life. ‘World Peace’ means freedom. So,when ya’ think of ‘Christmas Peace’, what does that mean?

Did ya’ knowthat tha’ word peace appears 27 times in tha’ Bible? That word must mean a lotta’ God.

Therefore, having beenjustified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:1

Peace bringsjoy. Peace brings happiness. Peace is tha’ result of havin’ a relationship withGod through faith in Christ.

For unto us a Child isborn, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. AndHis name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,Prince of Peace.

Tha’ Messiahwas described as Wonderful, Counselor - one with great wisdom ‘n leadership;Mighty God – His greatness; Everlasting Father – He will reign forever; ‘nPrince of Peace – He brings harmony, love, joy, happiness ta’ life.

Tha’shepherds were definitely surprised! Wouldn’t ya’ be if a host of Angelsappeared? But what great news of tha’ birth of Jesus! Tha’ Prince of Peace!

Jesus isChristmas Joy! God sent Him to bring us salvation, hope, love, ‘n peace.

Wonder why we hurry 'n scurry 'bout at this time of year? We know that Christmas is on December 25th every year, 'n yet there still seems ta' be so much ta' do 'n so little time ta' do it. By tha' time Christmas gets here, tha' joy's been sucked right out of it. How can ya' keep joy in your Christmas?

No matter how rushed we get durin' tha' Christmas season, we should never forget tha' real reason we celebrate it.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus. He's full of grace 'n truth. Like Paul said, His 'taking tha form of a bondservant, 'n comin' in tha' likeness of men' He lived ta' know us. Ta' feel pain. Ta' feel joy. Ta' feel rejection, so He can understand 'n help us with our disappointments, hard times, 'n good times. He came for us so we can be rescued, saved from our sin. What greater love is there?!

Ya' can have joy, happiness, in decoratin' tha' tree, cookin' Christmas cookies, 'n givin' ('n receivin') presents. Just keep your focus on tha' real JOY of CHRISTmas 'n it'll overflow inta' everythin' else ya' do.

On Tha' Battlefield of Life

Sometimes life is like bein' on a battlefield. Ya' face difficulties, stress, 'n life not goin' your way! There are soldiers fightin' for our country. Christians are ta' be soldiers for Christ. How can ya' be good a soldier for tha' Lord?!

What makes a good soldier? A good soldier:
1. Endures hardship

2. Escapes entanglements

                                                        3. Focuses on task

                                                        4. Prepares for battle with tha' right equipment

2 Timothy 2: 1-4 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.

Christian soldiers must also:
1. Endure hardships - Christians will go through tough times in life. Pain 'n loss. Be strong in tha' grace of God! Continue ta' praise Him through your hard times. He's always with ya'!

2. Escape entanglements - Don't get involved in tha' things of tha' world! Be steadfast, strong, n' bold in your faith!

3. Focus on God's will - He has a plan just for you! Stay focused on Jesus! Commit ta' Him!

4. Prepare for life's battles - Study 'n know tha' Word of God; Pray consistently; Grow in your faith; Put on tha' whole armor of God every day!

5. Live ta' please 'n exalt Jesus!

Things Ta' Think 'bout:

1. Are ya' a soldier for Christ?

2. Pray that tha' Lord will use ya' on life's battlefield.

Lord, I pray that you will give us
tha' strength we need ta' be tha' soldier you need on life's battlefield.

If Ya' Know God, Do Others Know It?

The most important thing is ta' know God! If ya' truly know God, your heart won't be bitter, ya' handle decisions 'n hard times in a different way!
Paul knew God. He knew Him in a personal way 'n people knew it by tha' way he lived. In Philippians 3:8 he said, "Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for who I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ." Wow, that's powerful!

Just 'cause ya' go ta' church doesn't mean ya' know God. If ya' truly know God, ya' have a deep, sincere relationship with Him. That means your studyin' His word, always prayin' 'n askin' Him for His guidance 'n wisdom, 'n bein' sensitive ta' tha' Holy Spirit.

God knows everthin' 'bout us. He wants us ta' seek Him. Acts 7:7-8 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." God wants us ta' have a personal realationship with Him.

Psalm 63:1 shows David's personal relationship with God. "O God, You are my god; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water." David knew God. He call'd out ta' Him 'n sang His praises.

If ya' say ya' know Jesus, how is it that your heart is bitter? 1 John 2:3 tells us - "Now by this we know that we know Him if we keep His commandments."
If ya' say ya' trust 'n love Jesus, why do ya' worry? Why do ya' depend on others 'n not Him?
1 John 2:6 "He who says he abides in Him ought also to walk just as He walked."

Things for ya' ta' think 'bout:

1. Do ya' really, truly know Jesus?

2. Do others know Him by tha' way your liv'n?

Lord, thank ya' for your grace 'n mercy. Help us ta' want a personal relationship with ya' so others can truly see ya' through our livin' like we know ya'. In Jesus name, amen.

Are Ya Walkin' In Joy?

Accordin' ta Webster's, tha' word joy means intense happiness. Bein' joyful is expressin' or feelin' joy.
What's your joy? What makes ya' feel joyful? For a Christian, joy is havin' a close relationship 'n fellowship with Jesus. It's havin' tha' Holy Spirit livin' inside ya'.

I remember when I accepted Jesus as my savior, I never felt so safe, so excited, so full of joy. It's like holdin' a new baby for tha' first time. Your heart can't help but overflow with - joy!

How can ya' continue your walk in joy? Here are some ways:

First of all, ya' need ta' talk with God. Let Him know daily your frustrations. Ask Him for His wisdom in everythin'.

Read His word every day. Take tha' time ta' meditate on it. Open your heart to receive it's message.

Allow God's love ta' shine through ya' so others will see it. This is important 'cause people do watch how ya' act 'n react ta' things that happen in your life.

Share your testimony with others. Learn Bible verses 'n keep 'em in your heart. Be ready 'n pray that God will send ya' someone who needs ta' know Him. God will give ya' what ya' need when ya' need it.

Pray without ceasin'. There is power in sincere prayer.

Keep fellowship with other Christians. We are ta' help 'n support each other.

Get involved in your church. Give back ta' God your time, talents, 'n money.

Walkin' in joy means walkin' in confidence of our future knowin' we have an eternal home with Him. John 15:11 Jesus says, "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full."

Lord, I thank ya' for what ya' did for me 'n everyone by diein' on tha' cross. I pray that ya' give me opportunities ta' share your name, your love, your joy. May we take tha' time ta' spend with ya' every day. Askin' for your wisdom, in tha' name of Jesus, amen.

Fit for Faith!

My sister, Ditsy Lou is all 'bout stayin' fit. Last week we were at the gym workin' out. We lifted weights, rode tha' bicycle, 'n took a Zumba class. I stretched, tugged, 'n pulled things I didn't know I had. I did learn one thing - ya' can't walk on a treadmill in high heels! Stayin' physically fit is important. But so is stayin' fit for faith. We gotta' be strong ta' fight 'n stand for our faith!

Stay fit for faith by:

1. Bein' strong in tha' Lord 2 Corinthians 13:4  For though He was crucified in weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.

2. Testin' yourself 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? - unless indeed you are disqualified.

   How Can You Test Yourself? You Will Have:
- conviction of  tha' Holy Spirit
you will know immediately that you've done somethin' wrong 'cause you'll have conviction right at that moment
- a longin' desire for a personal relationship with God
- a desire ta live in His peace
- tha' fruits of tha' spirit 'n people will see 'em in your life
- a willin'ness ta' share Jesus with others
- a desire ta' be more like Him

3. Realizin' what makes ya' different Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

4. Trutin', stayin' confident in God's promises Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

5. Keepin' God #1 in your life Psalm 95:7 For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.

God's grace is all ya' need! He is sufficient for all your needs!

1. Where are ya' in your faith?

2. Are ya' fit for faith?

Livin' Gods Word

Mamma has always read her Bible everyday. She's lived by Gods Word ever since I've known her. Ta' Mamma time spent in tha' Word was precious. Now, I'm not sayin' she's perfect, but it didn't matter that tha' clothes didn't get washed 'r tha' dishes put away, readin' her Bible came first.

What are your days like? Do ya' stop for a moment 'n read tha' scripture? It's so easy ta' let tha' "busyness" 'a life get in our way 'n rob us of that precious time in tha' Word. Not only should we read it, we need ta' meditate on its meanin'.

God's Word is true - Psalm 119:160 "The entirety of Your Word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever."

As Christians, we must use tha' knowledge of tha' Word of God ta' live in this world ta'day. Be careful what ya' allow ta' be in your life - your mind 'n heart. I"ve always heard that's what's in your heart is what ya' are. We can't live without Gods Word! It's priceless ta' livin' our Christian life. Learn verses 'n keep 'em with ya' so ya' can always stand against tha' devil.

"For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the divisons of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12 WOW! How powerful is that?! Sort 'a sums it up don't it?

"The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver." Psalm 119:72 Gods Word is better than jewelry 'r land. Do ya' see that Gods Word is tha' greatest treasure in tha' whole world?

We are so blessed ta' have tha' Bible in our country. So many people all over tha' world 'r hungry ta' hear His Word. They want ta' learn it 'n live it!

Things ta' think 'bout:

1. Are ya' really meditatin' on Gods Word 'r do ya' feel good 'cause ya' read a passage 'n closed the Book?

2. How are ya' liv'n out Gods Word in your day ta' day?

Oh, Lord, open our hearts ta' be sensitive ta' your Word.

Give us tha' burn'n desire ta' meditate on it,

ta' let ya' speak ta' us through it.

Thank ya' for the blessin' of havin' tha' Bible that gives us strength,

encouragement, comfort, 'n knowledge ta' battle tha' devil everyday. In tha'

Celebrate Freedom!

Daddy was a technical sergeant in WWII 'n knew first hand tha' price that was paid for freedom. He said that servin' his country was his duty. Daddy 'n Mamma were married while he was servi'n over seas, but their great faith in God kept 'em strong. Daddy never talk'd 'bout tha' war much 'cause he said it made it to real.

He was a patriotic man. He loved God, his family, his country, 'n his flag. Daddy proudly displayed his flag on a flg pole in his front yard. He loved ta' sit at tha' kitchen table, sip his coffee, 'n watch his flag wave bravely in tha' breeze.

Lord let me not in service lag.

Let me be worthy of our flag.

Let me remember when I'm tired,

The sons heroic who have died.

In freedom's name and in my way,

Teach me to be as brave as they.

Freedom is never free, there is always a price. Many men 'n women sacrified their lives for us ta' live in freedom. Our country has been blessed!

God blesses a nation whose worth 'n allegiance is ta' Him; a nation that is prayerful; a purposeful nation; a praisin' nation.

"The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men from the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works." Psalm33:13-15

Freedom for Christians is knowin' Jesus Christ. He set us free when he died on tha' cross. Christians are soldiers for Christ. Just like solders fightin' a war, we endure hardships 'n escape entanglements. The only way we can arm ourselfs for tha' fight is to put on tha' armor of God.

"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles (tricks,schemes) of the devil." Ephesians 6:11

Lord, thank ya' for blessin' America. Thank ya' for tha' men 'n women who sacrificed for our freedoms, 'n I pray for those who are currently servin' to help keep our flag wavin' in tha' breeze." In tha' name of Jesus, amen.

Psalm 1:1-3
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel (advice) of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law (Word) of the Lord. And in His law, he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers (abundance) of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Ta' be bless'd accordin' ta' tha 'scripture:

1. Have tha' right friendships - Christian fellowship is important for encouragement. Be careful who ya' hang out with. Ta' know 'n do tha' will of God is tha' quality of wisdom.

2. Have right priorities - Meditate on God's Word day 'n night, constantly yield'n ta' tha' will of God.

3. Have right power - Ya have abundant power from God ta' do His will.

4. Prosper - Focus continually on obedience to God, ya' will be productive. Commit ta' tha' Lord.

Tha person who obeys God receives tha' fullness of blessin'.

Lord, thank ya' for tech'n us through your Word.

This is another beautiful psalm of David 'bout faith perserverin' in trials.

God hears your cry in times of trials 'n pain. But ya' gotta' be patient. It's in tha' waitin' for His answer that your faith grows stronger. Then you'll have a fresh, renewed relationship with God! There was something wrong with this picture. I’d just walked into the Emergency Room of the hospital, pushing a soon-to-be patient through the door in a wheelchair. And there it was. Right there for all the world to see. Almost…challenging.

I looked at it closely. No, I didn’t like this, not one bit. Now, far be it from me to let you think I know all there is to know about hospital waiting rooms, and particularly the waiting area of an emergency room. But something seemed amiss. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the very reason there is an emergency room is because people need e-m-e-r-g-e-n-c-y treatment, and they need it now. If whatever ailed them could wait, they’d go into their physician’s office the next day or whenever he could work them in. Right?

So, here, just three feet from where I stood, was a sign that told me the average wait time was six hours. SIX HOURS??? Are you kidding me?

I looked down at the patient I’d just checked in. He was in pain and I could just imagine how disheartened he would be if he saw that sign, that HUGE sign glaring at me from across the room. So, I positioned his wheelchair in such a way that the sign wasn’t quite so obvious.

Fortunately, the wait was somewhat shorter than six hours. I guess showing up at four in the morning helped. There weren’t that many people in the waiting area. Interesting how the sick (aka contagious) folks are all grouped together on one side while the injured and sick-but-not-contagious folks are on the other. We happened to fall into the sick-but-not-contagious side.

After an hour or so, when our name was called, I was ready. I quickly pushed the wheelchair toward the triage area, when I heard my patient say, “Slow down!” I screeched to a slow crawl, never realizing I had been jogging and was just about to break into a run. Best to keep the patient happy. And it probably wouldn’t earn me any brownie points with the staff if I’d slammed him into the door jamb or worse, accidentally dumped him out onto the floor. I doubt he would have found any humor in that either.

As it turned out, within nine hours (yes, nine!) we were on our way. There would be no overnight stay this time of which I was thankful. But, on the way out, that six hour wait sign still stood there. I could only imagine how heart breaking it must be to some who come through that door, expecting and needing emergency care.

And then, I thought of it a little differently. It was a sign. A sign that ‘spoke’ the truth. I knew it was true. I’d been there before and had to wait much longer than I had this night (or morning). Maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing after all. Maybe it was actually good to know, to be prepared, to wait.

Have you ever had a sign? Maybe you saw something coming, something you really didn’t want to face, but you had a heads-up, a warning, before it got there? Sometimes a sign that seems like a bad thing, can really be good. It can prepare us for what’s to come. It can make us aware and give us time to get ready for what’s coming.

But not all signs are bad. Sometimes something comes along to alert us to something good coming. What about a phone call from your adult child that says, “Hey, mom, I’m coming to visit you this weekend!” Or the one that says, “Mom, you’re gonna be a grandma!”

In the Bible, God gives us words of wisdom that I like to think of as signs that help me along on my journey through life. In Philippians 4:8, I read, “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

What wonderful words to live by! If only we could fix our minds on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely…. Can you imagine how less stressed we would be? But we live in the real world, a world where most every day, we’re bombarded with negative thoughts, things that are untrue, dishonest, impure and ugly.

I thought the six hour sign was ugly. But it wasn’t. It was true. And it helped prepare me for a long wait that might have been much more stressful if I had not seen the sign going in.

Can you think of something that God has put along your path to help you out? Maybe it was something that prepared you for a trial or challenge. Or maybe it was something that prepared you for some joyful news!

My challenge to you today is to live in the moment and look closely for the evidence of God’s hand in your life. It’s there. Sometimes you just have to find your sign.

An Encouragin' Word

Worldlydisasters. Wars. Violence. Findin' jobs. Sometimes life can be morediscouragin' than encouragin'. We need some words of encouragement!

Someone intha Bible who is known for bein' an encourager is Barnabas, Son ofEncouragement.

Nor was there anyoneamong them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses soldthem, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them atthe apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.

And Joses (Joseph), whowas also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son ofEncouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus, having land, sold it, andbrought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet. Acts 4:34-37

Barnabassold his land n' gave tha' money ta' meet tha' needs of others. He was anencourager ta' believers at a time when they needed one after Jesus’ death n'resurrection. Barnabas kept remindin' 'em of their relationship with God, howgreat He is, and all that He has done.

He riskedhis life for believers by befriendin' Saul, a hater of believers. Barnabas didit to bring believers together.

Barnabas wassomeone who could be trusted.

Herecognized n' encouraged tha potential in others – he saw Paul’s gifts ontheir missionary journey’s tagether n' steps back for Paul to take on theleadership.

For he was a good man,and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith. Acts 11:24

Barnabaslived n' walked with God every day. He leaned on Him. He was full of faith. Wow!A great example for us today!

***1. We all long todefine our existence with significance, yet the only way to truly do that is tomake our eternity intentional. It’s a minute by minute choice of the will tofilter the way we respond to life through the lens of eternity. I pray that Understanding What Matters Mostwill equip each reader with the necessary tools to do just that. We're alllooking for answers, and Ecclesiastes really helps us understand how to makedecisions and deal with our circumstances based on what is and what is not important in light of eternity.

***2. The study ofEcclesiastes is certainly not for sissies! It deals with real issues and reallife circumstances. Solomon was the wisest man to walk the planet, yet he blew it bigtime! Solomon’s life is proof that wisdom doesn’t always equal perfection!The beautiful truth is that God still used Solomon, even after he failed. How did God place this book on your heart?

When I began writing Understanding What Matters Most, I didn't begin in hopes of publishinga book. Understanding What MattersMost was birthed from my own place of need. It was during a time whenGod had called us to the mission field and my 19 year old son didn't feel ledto go. My maternal heart began to wrestle with the details of thecall. I didn’t have a problem with thegoing...it was the leaving thatgripped my heart and clouded my view. Who was going to take care of him ifsomething went wrong? What if he got hurt? What about our parents? Iwas trying desperately to make sense of that which didn't make sense at all.

That's when the Lordgently led me to Ecclesiastes and gave me a bird's-eye view of Solomon's ownattempts to make sense of the details of his life. After he ran the gamut oflife experiences, he understood what matters most. I knew I needed that kind ofclarity. Not only for the circumstances surrounding our call to themission field, but to help me walk through life with the imprint of eternity onmy heart. My study of Ecclesiastes gave me the tools I needed to filterthe essential from the non-essential in light of eternity. When God put it on my heart to send it to a publisher and theysaid yes, that’s when I knew He wanted to use it for more than just notes for aconference.

Who would you say would benefit fromyour book?

It’s primarily a Biblestudy for women. However, since I’m a veteran homeschool mom who remembers howhard it was to find a good Bible study for my children, I would also like toencourage homeschool moms to use it as a study for their high school students.What a great opportunity to walk through Ecclesiastes as they sit at Solomon’sfeet and get a clear picture of how empty the pursuits of this life can be andhow important it to live each day with eternity in view!

What Dream Has God Givin' Ya'?

What do ya' want ta' be when ya' grow up? Everybody would ask me that especially Aunt Ulah. Yeah, she'd say every time, "Ya' goin' ta' be a teacher? You'd be a good one. Better decide what ya' gonna do!" I never wanted ta' be a teacher. I remember wantin' ta' be a nurse. But that soon passed when Cousin Bernie tossed Cousin Ernie inta' tha' chickin' coop.

Those chickin's pecked his bare feet 'n ankles 'til blood sputtered. Then I thought 'bout bein' a astronaut 'til I was standin' on a high dive 'n saw how far down it was ta' tha' bottom of tha' pool. Been afraid of heights ever since.

When I accepted Jesus as my Savior, I was ready ta' do His will. Thought God would let me know right then 'n there exactly what He wanted me ta' do in life so I could just go ahead 'n start doin' it. Ya' can't push God. I learn'd that knowin' His will for your life takes a heap of prayin', studyin' His word, 'n bein' sensitive ta' God's promptin's. Once ya' know His will then ya' need ta' obey God. When we obey, it pleases Him.

What is it that ya' like ta' do? What do ya' feel passionate 'bout? For me, it's actin', singin' 'n bein' an encourager for others by writin' 'n performin'. God has a dream (s) for ya'. He works 'n molds us like a potter does clay so we can develop tha strong faith we need ta' fight tha' devil's stumbling blocks. If ya' feel like ya' can't go on anymore just start praisin' tha' Lord, tha' devil will flee. Know that God is always with ya'!

"Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6

Tha Feud Over Strawberry Jam

It's that time againfor tha Pumpkin Growin', Jam Makin', Apple Pickin' Frog Holler FallFestival. Everybody's real excited 'bout it. Even Aunt Sophie. She's won1st place for her strawberry jam since I can remember. She's proud of it too!Until last year. That was when Myrtle May Bruberry, who thinks she has ta boilan egg for 20 minuets 'fore it's done, took tha honor away from Aunt Sophie.Now Aunt Sophie gets worked up over tha smallest thing. I remember when someonedidn't put tha cover over tha butter dish. She got herself in such a state, shehad ta take a nerve pill. You can imagine how she felt not winning tha jamcontest!

Aunt Sophie stoppedtalkin' ta Myrtle May - even at church. Tha whole town was talkin' 'bout it.Some said, "The devil's got hold of her!" She even looked different.Her face was set like stone. It seemed like her heart had become cold n' hard.No one wanted ta be 'round her. Then, while readin' her Bible, Aunt Sophie feltconvicted by God's Word of her envy n' ambition. The book of James made herrealize that even though her jam was sweet, tha fruit of her earthly"wisdom" was bitter.

"But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."

James 3: 14-15 & 17-18Tha next Sunday, Aunt Sophie went right up taMyrtle May n' apologized for treatin' her so bad. Then Aunt Sophie askedMyrtle May for some of her jam n' her recipe! This year Aunt Sophie hasdecided ta try her luck in tha pie contest with her famous blueberry pie. Shedoesn't care if she wins or not. She knows either way this year, she will"raise a harvest of righteousness."

Time Ta' Git Up!

Mamma used ta' come in ta' me 'n my sister, Ditsy Lou's room ev'r morin', 'n turn tha' light on 'n shout, "Rise 'n shine"! We knew it was time ta git up for school 'r church. I've always been a morin' person 'n didn't mind gittin' up. Ditsy Lou was a nite owl so, her "git up" was hard'r ta' "git up". She wait'd 'til tha' last minute before she fin'ly pushed herself out a' bed. I've learned that time is precious 'n shouldn't be wasted. Our time is so short.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. Matthew 28:19
After Jesus had risin', He went ta' Galilee ta' see His disciples one more time. Jesus taught 'em so they'd learn 'bout Him, 'n then He sent 'em out ta' teach 'n baptize.

His great commission is for all of us Christians! My friends, it's time ta' git up 'n live ya' faith in this world ta'day! It's time ta' be bold for Jesus! It's time ta' be steadfast in tha' work of tha' Lord! It's time ta' tell others 'cause time is short!

1. Are ya' faithful ta' God & tha' things of God? Or is ya' faith asleep 'n hard ta' git up?

2. Do ya' know Him through His word?

3. Are ya' ready ta' git up 'n tell others? Cause when ya' tell your story, ya' tell His.

How Can Ya' Have Strong Faith While Takin' Care Of Everyday Stuff?

Mamma's always been a strong woman with a great faith in God. She says that faith ain't all that complicated - there's a right road 'n a wrong road ta' travel. And if your road doesn't end with Jesus, then your life's all a waste. If your road's not pointed toward Jesus, it's pointed toward trouble. When ya' come ta' a crossroad in your life, which road will ya' take?

Ya' know, sometimes it's hard ta' figure out if you're walkin' on tha' right road when your road is filled with business meetin's, deadlines, payin' tha' bills, gettin' your car repaired, 'n returnin' your phone calls. Ta' stay on tha' right road, read your Bible everyday. Sounds simple doesn't it? Our lives become so filled with "stuff" that we get overwhelmed, 'n sometimes our faith gets lost in tha' shuffle. But it's through His word that God speaks ta' us, 'n keeps us strong ta' get through our everyday "stuff".

Here's what some of tha' scriptur's say 'bout faith:

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:5

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

Faith is believ'n in someth'n without really see'n it. God says that our faith will make us
strong. No matt'r what happens in our life - in good times, in hard times - our faith in Him
will carry us, 'n uplift us. Our vict'ry is in Him!

I love ta' watch little children. They're not afraid of anythin'. They have faith!

When Cousin Cletus was a little boy, he prayed this prayer before goin' ta' school:

"Good mornin' God. There are a few things I need your help with taday:

First of all, please help me find my

homework 'r Miss Wiley won't let me go out 'n play;

'n God make Bobby Lee stop pullin' Sally Jane's pigtails, 'cause it makes her cry;

Oh, 'n one more thing God, don't let Miss Wiley find out I was the one who put tha' frog in

her desk drawer. I sure would appreciate it. Thank ya' God. Amen."

The honesty, openness, and faith of a child. We could all use a dose of childlike faith.

Truly I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew: 18:3

Realizing Your Winning Potential

You may have heard me say that God never asks me to do anything easy. I used to drag my feet, become overwhelmed, make excuses, and even – at times – deny understanding what was being asked. Eventually, I would come around to God’s way of thinking.

When God asks you to do something difficult, how do you respond?

When I lack desire to move ahead with what God is asking, I think about Jonah. Jonah did not want to do what God asked. Instead, he ran. How often have we been like that?

Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

Jonah 1:1-3

Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah 1:17

Jonah’s running from the Lord ended in his being swallowed by a whale. Once he came to see things God’s way, God put him back on course courtesy of the whale. This time, Jonah listened. I wonder how much hardship we could avoid if we just listened?

Even when we don’t run, we can still be a lot like Moses. Remember his initial response to God?

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

Exodus 3:3-4

Moses got off to a good start. He replied, “Here am I.” After he found out what God wanted, the excuses started. We could pick on Moses for making excuses, but he did do one thing right in all of that. He didn’t just refuse to act. He took those excuses to God, and God provided. We need to do that too!

Now, let’s consider what Jesus first ask of Paul.

And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Acts 9:3-6

Paul responded with, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?“ Jesus told Paul to go into the city, and he would be told what to do. Sounds simple enough, right? Think again. This incident had left Paul blind. He had to be led to the city at which time Ananias restored his sight. Even as a new believer, Paul was given a challenging task.

Hopefully as you grow spiritually, you find yourself being less like Jonah and more like Paul in your response to God.

Our challenge today is to realize that God does not need us to be a part of His plan; He invites us to be a part. Each man – Jonah, Moses, and Paul - was given a challenge, and God provided for each. Whether you are a new believer or a more mature believer, you’re going to have some challenges. Remember, just as God provided for each of them, He’ll provide for you!

We can all understand that there are different Seasons of Our Lives. There is also a time for everything in our lives. This scripture in Ecclesiastes states that very well.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

1 To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted;

3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Just as there are seasons of the year: spring, summer, fall and winter, we all go through seasons in our lives. The seasons of the year were part of God's plan from the beginning of creation as we see in this scripture. Genesis 1:14-15 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

SPRING is a time for planning and planting. Maybe you plant a garden or a flower bed. You may plan your vacation, wedding or some event that will take place in the future. It is a time for hope, new beginnings and looking forward for what is to come. I really love the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection at Easter in the spring. John 11:25 KJV - Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

SUMMER is a time for fun, cookouts, vacations, weddings, beach trips, and births; these are times in our lives when we are celebrating the good things and blessings that God has brought into our lives. It is a time of joy and a time to harvest the crops that we planted in spring just as this scripture talks about. Proverbs 10:5 He that gathereth in summer [is] a wise son: [but] he that sleepeth in harvest [is] a son that causeth shame.

FALL may be a time of letting go of something or someone, maybe the people that we love most in our lives. I love when the leaves on the trees change colors to beautiful colors of gold, rust, and orange. But eventually, just as we have to learn to let go, the trees have to let go of their leaves. This may be a time of sadness. We have to learn to lean on God for strength to get through these times in our lives.

One of the highlights of fall is the celebration of Thanksgiving. It is a time when families get together and celebrate with one another. It gives us a chance to offer thanks to God for all His blessings just as this scripture says. Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, [and] into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, [and] bless his name.

WINTER of our lives may represent a death, a divorce, a serious illness. It is a time of sorrow. These are cold dark times in our lives, but with God’s help we can get through them and then it is spring again and He brings hope back into our lives. One thing that I love about winter, which helps to brighten those cold, dark, dreary days, is the celebration of Jesus’ birth during the Christmas holidays.

This scripture reminds us that as long as the earth exists these seasons will remain. Genesis 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

No matter what season of your life you are in God is there for you. He is there when you are celebrating something in your life and you are happy. He is also there when you are letting go or mourning something in your life and you are sad.

Sometimes when we are going through the tough times we can feel His presence even more. I am not sure whether it is because He knows we need Him or because we realize in those times that we need Him. Reach out to God and He will help you get through whatever season you are in.

He is a true companion just as is stated in this scripture. Hebrews 13:5 KJV - [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Bein' Consistent In Your Faith

Cousin Horace played football in high school. He was really good bein' he caught tha ball, ran tha ball, 'n made touchdowns. Cousin Horace led Tha Frog Holler Jumpers football team ta a championship in 1971. So, bein' consistent is important. Livin' in our changin' world taday, we need consistency in our faith. What does that mean exactly?

Christians need ta be more consistant - unwavering, constant in their relationship with Jesus! Renew every day with Him! Stand firm!

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Christians aren't consistent enough in their faith.

So, how can ya be consistent, 'Steadfast' in your faith?

1. Live and work for Jesus. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved bretheren, be steadfst, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

2. Put God first. Psalms 16:8 I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

3. Trust in God in all things. Psalms 26:1 Judge me, O Lord; for I have walked in my integrity; I have trusted also in the Lord, I shall not slip.

4. Hold on for God is faithful. Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for He is faithful that promised.

5. Continue to hope and hang on to your faith. 1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.

6. Maintain your relationship through constant prayer. God wants ta know what's on your heart! Pour it out ta Him! 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

You will have consistent victory in your life! Victory over your fears. Victory over depression. Victory over bitterness. Victory over anythin' that gets ya down.

1. Are ya consistent, steadfast, in your faith?

2. What are some things ya need ta work on?

Lord, may we be more consistent, steadfast in our relationship with you. In our faith, Lord, give us strength ta be strong, ta stand firm! Givin' you tha glory, in Jesus name, amen.

Waitin' On Tha Lord Livin' In Tha Fast Lane

Waitin' is one of tha hardest things for me ta do. We live in such a hurry taday. I see women puttin' on their blush 'n mascara as they drive ta work. Men talkin' on cell phones while readin' notes walkin' down tha street. Kids are bein' pulled by their parents ta hurry in ta school. Rush, rush, rush! There's no waitin' livin' in tha fast lane.

"Come ye yourselves apart" (Mark vi. 31).

One of the greatest hindrances to spirituality is the lack of waiting upon God. You cannot go through twenty-four hours with two or three breaths of air, in the morning, as you sip your coffee.
But you must live in the atmosphere, and you must breathe it all day long. Christians do not wait upon God enough. It needs hours and hours daily of spiritual communion with the Holy Spirit to keep your vitality healthful and full. Every moment should find you breathing out yourself into Christ, and breathing afresh His life, and love and power.

God is waiting to send us the Holy Spirit. He is longing to bless us. His one business is to quicken and sustain our spiritual life. He has nothing else to do with His infinite and great resources. Let us receive Him. Let us live in Him. Let us give to Him the joy of knowing that His infinite grace has not been bestowed in vain, but that we appreciate and improve the blessings which He oft has so freely bestowed.

Lord, help me this day to dwell in Thee as the flower in the sunshine, as the fish in the sea, living in Thy love as the atmosphere and element of my being.

When You're Waitin' On Tha Lord?
1. You pursue Him - Psalm 62:2 He only is my rock and my salvation...
2. You'll listen ta Him - Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
