Gettin' Out of Tha Ditch

Gettin’ Out of Tha Ditch

Grandpa had twin mules, Nell 'n Pearl. They were good mules n' didn't mind hard work. But if they got spooked, watch out! They'd take off runnin!

One day Daddy was walkin’ between Nell 'n Pearl plowin’ tha field. A storm came up 'n a clap of thunder spooked 'em. Nell 'n Pearl took off runnin' with Daddy hangin’ on as best he could. When they got to tha ditch, Nell 'n Pearl came to a dead stop.  Daddy kept goin’ ‘n landed down in tha ditch.  He was knee deep in slimy ditch water that had been there since tha last storm.  It was hard for him to climb out cause his feet kept gettin’ tangled in tha weeds, ‘n tha briers latched onto his clothes.

Tha storm was gettin’ worse ‘n worse.  Daddy was scared he was gonna’ get struck by lightin’ standin’ in all that water.  He started prayin’ askin’ God to help him get out of tha ditch! All of a sudden he realizes that Nell ‘n Pearl are still there.  Daddy saw tha reins danglin’ down.  He grabbed hold of ‘em ‘n yelled, “Giddy-up!” Nell ‘n Pearl started movin’ backwards pullin’ Daddy up tha slick muddy side of tha ditch.  By that time, tha storm had moved on ‘n Daddy led Nell ‘n Pearl back to tha barn.

We don't know what kind of dead stops life will bring us. But we do know who's in control 'n who can help us get out of tha ditch.

James 4:14 Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Things To Think 'bout:
1. Do you need help gettin' out of a ditch?
2. When you are in a ditch, do you rely on God?

Lord, thank ya' for your grace and love. You are almighty! Help us to always rely on you in all of our life's situations. In tha name of Jesus, amen.
